ILLINOIS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY |
|
Illinois Archaeology publishes original articles relating to the archaeology of Illinois and surrounding regions. The Illinois Archaeological Survey holds copyright on all material published in the journal. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission to use previously copyrighted material in their submissions. A manuscript submitted to Illinois Archaeology should not have been published elsewhere. Authors submit manuscripts to the editor. Book reviews are solicited by the book review editor.
Authors should submit three copies of their manuscripts to the editor. Manuscripts should be on 8.5 x 11 inch paper, with one-inch margins on all sides and double-spaced throughout. The author's name and a page number should be on every page, including the illustrations and bibliography. Follow American Antiquity (1992, 57: 749-774) style guidelines for text, figures, tables, notes, and references. The style guide is available on the internet at http://www.saa.org/publications/styleguide/styframe.html. Include an abstract of 150 words or less summarizing the article and its conclusions. Cite all figures by consecutive number within the text. Figure captions should accompany each figure, typed double-spaced on a separate sheet. Care should be taken to produce figures that will be clear and legible in published form. The References Cited section should include all, but only those, references cited in the text. Spell out authors' given names in reference citations, when available. Please submit final copies of accepted articles in electronic form, either on computer disks or as e-mail attachments. Text, notes, and references should be in Microsoft Word for Windows format. Tables should be in Word table format with each table in a separate file. Line illustrations and photographs should be submitted as clean, hard copy. Whenever possible, contributors should also submit figures electronically as tagged-image file format (TIFF) files with a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi).
The editor reserves the right to evaluate manuscripts (with or without peer review) for appropriate subject matter, quality, length, and compliance with style guidelines. Manuscripts may be returned to authors if they fail to meet expectations or conform to these guidelines. The editor evaluates manuscripts in consultation with peer reviewers, as appropriate. The editor has final responsibility for all decisions regarding manuscripts.
Each author will receive one copy of the Illinois Archaeology volume in which he or she has a contribution. In lieu of reprints, electronic copies of published articles and book reviews will be made available to authors as portable-document format (PDF) files.
